Layer by Layer: Gelli Printing Basics (In-Person)

4 Wednesdays
9:30AM - 12:30PM
$320 for 4 weeks

Instructor: Jennifer Caloyeras

Are you curious about gelli-plate printing, but don’t know where to begin? This course introduces students to the gelli plate, a versatile mono printing technique that can be used to create beautiful works of art and, unlike traditional printmaking, each print is unique.

In this class, students will explore the gelli plate printing process through a series of instructor-led exercises that include paint application, braying techniques, layering, stencil and mask creation, and mark-making approaches. Through these exercises, students work in a way that reflects their own desired aesthetic and receive guidance if they’d prefer a more prescribed method. Emphasis in this class is placed on process, experimentation, and problem-solving. Through guided demonstration followed by practical application, students will develop a general understanding of the many ways in which a gelli plate can be used, as well as the practical steps in which to use it and properly care for it.
