Instructor: Timothy Kitz

Join painting instructor Timothy Kitz, for this special one-night only opportunity to learn to paint in the style of JMW Turner, British master painter and father of modern art. Turner was groundbreaking in his expressive and mood-evoking style, laying the groundwork for Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism. Turner’s focus on ethereal light and his loose painting style defied the painting tradition of the early 1800’s.

Using a palette of intense, luminous washes and bold brushwork, students explore pushing the limits of transparent and opaque mediums towards abstraction to evoke feeling and mood, arriving at their own interpretation of JMW Turner’s unique style.

Materials and supplies will be provided.

Location: This is an in-person class taking place at the new BAC campus located in Santa Monica at

1625 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA. LINK TO MAP

Transportation and Parking: Centrally located for easy access from all over Los Angeles County, BAC is only a 5-minute walk from the E Line (Expo) Metro Rail station exit off of 17th/SMC. The Center has a small parking lot located right in front of the buildings entrance. If parking is unavailable in the lot there is 2, 3 and 9-hour metered street parking in the area.
