This course builds a solid foundation in oil and acrylic painting through the study of still life. Students
begin with geometric forms and progress to simple objects, natural objects such as flowers, metal
surfaces, and finally a multi-object composition. Each session includes a lecture and demonstration on
essential concepts such as value, composition, color mixing, and form simplification. In the final weeks,
students apply these skills to complete a finished still-life painting and receive a critique. Suitable for both
beginners and experienced painters looking to strengthen their fundamental painting skills.
Location: This is an in-person class taking place at the new BAC campus located in Santa Monica at
1625 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA. LINK TO MAP.
Transportation and Parking: Centrally located for easy access from all over Los Angeles County, BAC is only a 5-minute walk from the E Line (Expo) Metro Rail station exit off of 17th/SMC. The Center has a small parking lot located right in front of the buildings entrance. If parking is unavailable in the lot there is 2, 3 and 9-hour metered street parking in the area.
