Plein Air Painting in Watercolor (Off-campus)

Instructor: Timothy Kitz

Join expert artist and teacher Timothy Kitz as he guides students through painting en plein air in watercolor. En plein air is a French expression, meaning “in open air” -- to paint outside while experiencing the outdoor studio of the natural world first hand and completing an entire painting out of doors. Course explores working with watercolor and gouache - including pigments, brushes, and paper/board/grounds to achieve outstanding results. Also covers use of color, tone, value, color mixing, composition, and brushstroke for desired effect. Students work on location and in-person with their instructor and peers.

Location: This is an in-person class taking place at the new BAC campus located in Santa Monica at

1625 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA. LINK TO MAP.

Transportation and Parking: Centrally located for easy access from all over Los Angeles County, BAC is only a 5-minute walk from the E Line (Expo) Metro Rail station exit off of 17th/SMC. The Center has a small parking lot located right in front of the buildings entrance. If parking is unavailable in the lot there is 2, 3 and 9-hour metered street parking in the area.
