Joseph Mallord William Turner (April 23, 1775 - December 19, 1851) was an English Romantic painter considered one of history’s greatest artists and whose work helped lay the foundation for the Impressionist movement and Modern Art.

In this 3 hour workshop, artist/instructor Timothy Kitz shares his past awe-inspiring experience visiting the Seaport Museum in Connecticut for the largest international exhibition of Turner watercolors outside of England spanning the entirety of his career.

Using the exhibition as inspiration, the workshop focuses on the evolution of the artist’s mastery of the medium, exploring his exceptional use of atmosphere and of light through transparent and opaque palette mixing, the free extemporaneous application of paint with various brush and material combinations, and teaching Turner’s technical foundation for bold compositions in a hands-on watermedia experience.
