Brentwood Art Center is pleased to congratulate longtime student, Shirley Peppers, on her 1st Place award in the international juried competition, Splash 2023: The Best of Watercolor, out of more than 900 submissions. The award comes with a substantial cash prize, and Shirley’s work will be featured in Splash’s premiere print publication, which showcases the works of contemporary watercolor artists. The publication will be out this summer. The juror for the competition was Mary Whyte, a figurative artist whose work holds special personal meaning for Shirley.

I took first place in the Splash Best of Watercolor competition this year, due in no small part to the excellent and honest teaching and feedback I have been fortunate enough to receive from the instructors and staff at Brentwood.
