Raúl Vega teacher photography at Brentwood Art Center

Raúl Vega

Raúl Vega attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and the University of Florence, Italy majoring in architecture. After college, Raúl quickly turned to photography. His award-winning photographs have appeared, often as covers, in such magazines as Time, Esquire, Interview, the New Yorker, the New York Times, Glamour, Vogue and Vanity Fair, among many others. Recently Raúl has shown and co-curated 2 benefit exhibitions at the Leica Gallery.

Raúl has been teaching at Otis College of Art & Design since Fall 2010. He has created several classes ranging from Portraiture to Photographic Storytelling. He has also been teaching children and high schoolers photography with some emphasis on editing for the past 7 years.

Raúl’s “new abstractions” reflect a personal growth resulting from major technical advancements in the world of photography. These innovations allow him the ability to assemble images in new and unexpected ways. Though rooted in a traditional, photographic representation of reality, the images, when combined with other elements such as color, texture and varied opacities, allow for a new visual language, a thrilling interaction with the viewer. Vega’s new work flips back and forth between and the rigors of representation and the liberating ambiguity of abstraction.
