Teen Summer Art Camps

These week-long fine art camps for teens will spark students’ creativity and imagination. Students in these camps will explore a variety of media through projects grounded in artistic movements, techniques, and concepts.

Camp will run from 2pm-5pm every weekday (there is no camp July 3).

With a different theme or focus each week, students can sign up for any combination of weeks.

Camp Calendar

6/8 – 6/12:
Explorations in Drawing

Students will learn technical skills with dry and wet mediums such as graphite, charcoal, pastels, erasers, ink and also experiment with unconventional drawing materials such as tape and handmade marking materials. Elements of line, value and composition will be stressed and encouraged to be pushed.

6/15 – 6/19:
Ceramics
Liz Navarro

In this camp students will create functional and sculptural pieces out of clay. Students will develop basic hand building and potter’s wheel skills. Emphasis will be placed on surface decoration by creating textures and working with underglazes. Students of all levels are welcome!

6/24 – 6/28:
Intro to Painting
Ally Wallace

In this camp students will become versed in painting techniques and concepts. This camp will cover a broad range of subjects including still life, landscape, abstract and portrait.

6/29 – 7/2:
Portrait Drawing
Juliana Romano

In this course students will learn the basic techniques and skills required to capture a person’s likeness using graphite, charcoal, and other dry media.

7/6 – 7/10:
World of Comics
Austin Conrad

In this camp students will learn to develop their own graphic characters and place them in a story. They will also explore different techniques in the world of comics, and learn how to implement them into their own work.

7/13 – 7/17:
Portrait Painting

In this camp students will learn techniques for mixing and applying paint, analyzing value, seeing color, rendering light and shadow, and capturing the likeness of a person.

7/20 – 7/24:
Surrealist Drawing
Lauren Volk

In this weeklong workshop, students will be given a solid foundation in basic drawing techniques (contour drawing, cross hatching, scumbling, etc.) and the elements and principles of design (composition, line, space, etc.). They will also learn about the Surrealists and their revolutionary attempts to plumb the subconscious and release their true creative potential.

7/27 – 7/31:
Illustrative Painting
Lauren Volk

In this camp, students will experiment with new techniques, sharpen their skills, and discover new ways to communicate through their art. Five separate painting projects include a still life, a commercial illustration, and an abstract or cubist piece.
